I've set up my Panasonic PT AE 100 projector with Avia, when setting up the contrast it says that if the two lines dissappear into the background it's too high, if I set mine to it's maximum at plus 31, the lines are still visible.
Am I doing something wrong or is my projector just not powerful enough ?

    Thanks

This means that the circuitry of your TV (or projector) has not overloaded and you are not subject to unnecessary loss of resolution and sharpness.

You will need to make additional adjustments to contrast as you proceed through the tests, notably for the gray scale tests.

(CRT projector, CRT direct view, and plasma owners should cut the contrast at least in half after this first contrast test and then continue with tests. Otherwise the life of CRT's and plasma panels is greatly shortened.)
