Actually it has been shipping for about two weeks now. How you see the cost depends on whether you need the expanded functionality. Avia PRO is not a replacement for Avia but a completely new, definitive disc set with documentation intended for professional calibrators, engineers, designers, and reviewers. The average home user of Avia won't understand much of the content because it is at a higher technical level. Given the target audience, I didn't "hand hold" beginners in the documentation and jumped straight to the technical details of each signal. Professionals will understand, but the average, lay consumer will need more background to understand the power which is being delivered in Avia PRO.

Compared to Avia's 150 or so video test pattern set (which is still the most extensive on a consumer disc) the Avia PRO signal set is much more extensive. On just the 16x10 test disc alone (one of seven discs in the set) there are 1,000 new, high accuracy test signals. Many signals are also supplied in variants so the pro can select the one which matches the sitation. Things like variable grid spacing and intensities, adjustable APL black level tests, variable saturation color bars, and more actually bring the total distince signals to over 3,000 if you count them all on THAT disc. There are several other DVD's in the box set. Navigation is very simple due to a menu structure tailored for either work flow (display suites) or total heirarchial access. It's not a consumer set.

Some companies make a few improvements to their product and attach the "PRO" name. When we say "PRO" we actually mean professional. There are some "must have the best" hobbiests who will have obtained Avia PRO. Those are the ones who really lead the way in the hobby. The average home theater fan will be overwhelmed by the content and the price. It doesn't make sense for the average consumer who currently uses a fraction of the consumer Avia DVD.
