I've just set up all my ht hardware. I threw in a copy of MATRIX and...I wasn't all that impressed.
I really think I need to do some serious calibration.
Only problem is I'm having a hard time finding a copy of AVIA or VE in the Toronto (Mississauga) area.
Any ideas...guys.

Sorry I'm not local to you but I know you can pick up the Avia disc from amazon.com. I'm considering getting myself.

Hi Nav:
Try Entertainment Warehouse on Ridgeway in Mississauga.

I just ordered AVIA there a couple of days ago. They have a great selection of DVS's and DTS stuff.

If you are in a pinch, you might want to use a THX-certified DVD's Optimode feature (e.g., Terminator 2: Judgment Day) to calibrate your audio and video components. Not sure if every THX DVD has this Optimode feature....but there are a number of them out there.
AVIA and Video Essentials DVD's are very pricey here in Canada...typically in the CDN$70 range. Your best bet is probably through a US online dealer. But be prepared for customs and taxes to be charged...unless you go through dealers like Amazon. However, Amazon has them for US$40 and up....that's pricey, even without customs. There may be some coupons available, not sure if there are any that currently work in Canada.
FWIW, 800.com has Video Essentials for US$25 plus US$5 shipping, CDN$5 customs fee and PST and GST. This works out approximately CDN$57 delivered to Ontario (assuming US$1=CDN$1.55).

Only if it was Nelly Furtado doing the pinching :)
I wouldn't recommend the Optimode, as Stacey Spears of Secrets of Home Theatre has reported its calibration references change from DVD to DVD. Stick to Avia or Video Essentials. Its been noted that the VE overscan template is a little off. I have both.
C&L has VE for $42.16CAN. Haven't ordered from them in awhile, but they had this uncanny knack of delivering my DVD's across the country by next day.

Nav, You may want to check out EBAY. That is where I found my Video Essentials and it ended up costing me about $40 canadian total. It even had the piece of blue film with it still. Hope this helps.
