At buy.com the S&V disk costs $13.00, and the Avia costs $40.50. Which one do I want? Will the Avia give me $27.00 worth of better setup? I will need to match my center with my mains, and I read that the S&V does not have that test? But I really would like to know what the difference is.

    Thanks
    Bob

I got the S&V disk and calibrate my speakers with the SPL meter from Ratshack and it works fine. I would just buy the S&V disk. It also has about 7 Dolby Digital demos and a THX demo. It works fine and costs alot less.

Both get you there sonically. The original AVIA has scads of video and audio/analizer tests most won't use. S&V offers 6.1 while Avia is DD 5.1. S&V has a DTS test track, but it's not necessary -- DTS just comes encoded +4dB over DD.

Here's a comment from Guy Kuo, founder of Ovation, which makes both discs., mainly on video:

How do these compare to the THX optimizers included on some discs?

Brian, try a Search...I hear Optimode is just applicable to THAT disc.
