    I have
    JBL EC35 center
    4 E30s 2 for front, 2 for surround(I have 4 E80s coming in this week to replace the 30s)
    1 SVS PB10ISD
    Pioneer 1014 Receiver

I originally used the receiver calibration to set up my system but usually the center channel is so low when people are talking in movies you can hardly hear it.

Seeing how I'm replacing my speakers I want to do an actual calibration, I've done some searching but havent found some definite answers.

What does my receiver volume have to be set at to do the calibration?
Will my speakers be damaged if I have to turn it up to calibrate?
Is there somewheres in writing where you can get a walkthrough on how to do the audio setup?
I know enough to know what to buy and to be dangerous, in these other respects Im a noob, any help would be appreciated.

Do you have an SPL meter?

    You need one.

It doesn't really matter what the volume is set to as long as all the speakers play at the same volume. you want to measure using a relatively decent/loud volume setting.

If you want to have 0db on your receiver be accurate to reference level, then you can calibrate to that as well, but it's not really necessary to do so unless you want to.

I also think this is covered in the basics Primer and FAQ.
