Where to watch

Over on page 20 of the current Infinity War thread, Adam and Josh and I were discussing an apparent need for a spoiler thread for this film.

Hopefully we'll get a separate spoiler thread started soon, because it's hard to discuss this movie without getting into significant spoilers, and people in this thread deserve to be protected from that and have the surprises preserved.

Agreed - I would love to be able to discuss this movie but it feels hard to do so without resorting to massive uses of spoiler boxes. It's not so much that the plot is a mega-surprise with twists you'll never see coming; it's more that the film is packed with moments, big and small, that happen throughout and which are delightful, and those moments deserve to be enjoyed by viewers watching the film for the first time. In many ways, the little moments carried more weight with me than the bigger picture items.

+1. I actually suggested this a couple weeks ago for this film, but at the time it felt like most people thought only Star Wars would necessitate separate threads. I think, though, seeing the movie, the value of having a separate thread becomes clear.

So, I thought I would go ahead and create one. Hopefully the moderators approve. If not, I apologize, but it feels like there is a desire for a space to discuss this freely without using spoiler tags. So here it is.

Obviously, anybody still needing to see the movie should not hang out in here until you've done so.

On the Wednesday, wouldn't it make more sense to flop Civil War and The Avengers so that the movies concerning those characters are in order?
I think the first run of 20 is meant to screen in order, then Wednesday and Thursday have isolated “repeats” in varying order. Thursday is supposed to be based on a fan vote I believe.

Right. But on Wednesday, why go from Civil War to Avengers 1 to Infinity War? You might as well flip those last two around so that you get Avengers, Civil War and Infinity War chronologically, especially since Civil War very much dictates where the team is at when you get to the start of Infinity War.

My ass just couldn't take it.

Yeah...re-releasing these films is not a bad idea, but doing so in a marathon setting when there are so many of them is just not plausible or realistic. I wonder if they expect fans to pick their favorites to go see again. My favorites by fr are the two Guardians films, but I'm not on good terms with my AMC right now, and they're our only IMAX, so I'm not interested in this personally.

Cinemark did this last year too, although not with all 20, in their IMAX equivalent xD format. Oddly, Cinemark will be using the same week this year to do marathon screenings too, of Harry Potter. It must be an off week where no chains really expect attendance to be huge.

I absolutely think the intention is for fans to just go to their favorites. Maybe it’s no different than other marathons, but the tickets for each movie showing are available as separate, individual tickets.

Based on what I'm seeing on Fandango it looks like the Marvel week will be in IMAX 3D if the film being shown was made in 3D.

I’m seeing a mix of 2D and 3D showtimes in NYC which don’t seem to match how the films were originally made and presented.

All of the films except for Iron Man, The Incredible Hulk and Iron Man 2 are 3D movies. But I’m only seeing 3D listings for:
-Thor
-Marvel’s The Avengers
-Iron Man 3
-Thor: The Dark World
-Captain America: The Winter Soldier
-Guardians Of The Galaxy
-Avengers: Age Of Ultron
-Ant-Man
-Doctor Strange
-Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 2

These should be in 3D but are being shown in 2D instead:
-Captain America: The First Avenger
-Captain America: Civil War
-Spider-Man: Homecoming
-Thor: Ragnorak
-Black Panther
-Avengers: Infinity War
-Ant-Man And The Wasp

Missed opportunity.

That's better than I feared it would be. During the Harry Potter event a couple of years ago Deathly Hallows pt 2 wasn't shown in IMAX 3D as it was originally released. Also the selected IMAX only 3D scenes in Order of the Phoenix and Half Blood Prince weren't shown in IMAX 3D for the event.

Sadly, I think the IMAX exclusive 3D segments for Harry Potter 5 and 6, as well as Superman Returns, are essentially lost to time since the studios never saw fit to include those segments on the home video releases.

After my fourth viewing (first home viewing), I feel like Avengers Infinity War is arguably Marvel’s best work. It is definitely right up at the top with their very best, and I’d personally put it fighting for the top spot with The Winter Soldier.

There is just so much that worked so well in this massive event which is the start of a culmination of 10 years worth of stories that when I sit back and think about how wild it is that this exists I get a little giddy. No exaduration, it is literally a dream come true for me from three decades ago.

The Russos shared this fan video, and I think it was quite well done. I can see why they endorsed it.

It isn't a bad movie - far from it - but I honestly won't know if I truly liked it until I see the next AVENGERS movie. INFINITY WAR is only half a story. This isn't the first movie to do this, it won't be the last, but it is a tad anticlimactic nevertheless.

If you look at it from the Avengers' point of view, it's only half a story. If you look at it from Thanos's point of view, it's a complete story with beginning, middle, and end -- and a triumphant (if somewhat bittersweet) ending to boot!

That is absolutely true. I guess since I know there will be another AVENGERS film next year, it just kind of felt like all set-up and no payoff.

Of course we know there will be another one. Even if it hadn't been a back-to-back shoot, there's always going to be another Marvel production. That being said, I think it paid a lot of things off that started in the earlier films.

If by "payoff" you mean "It set up Thor to kill Thanos and he didn't," that's right. If you mean "There will be story threads that will be picked up next year," that's also right.

But I think it paid off a great deal for fans of the MCU, particularly in finally making Thanos a fully-realized central character after he had been teased for six years.

The relationships between the characters got a great deal of payoff too.

We all knew there was going to be two movies.
They weren’t going to do a 5 and a half hour one movie.

My goodness, how would you have ended this movie.

I am not a screenwriter, so I have no idea. I can only comment on what I feel when I watch a movie.

No payoff. Wow.
I'm not as invested in these movies as most people but I didn't think the movie had much of a payoff because I didn't think even for a fraction of a second that the characters are actually dead. Through some manner, the entire climax will (and should) be undone by the end of the next movie.
