I posted the specs for the original film in its own thread. Interesting that the video steam for Way of Water is 5.3 GB smaller than the stream for the original Avatar, despite Way of Water being half an hour longer. The overall disc size for both films is about the same (~81 GB), but the audio tracks for Way of Water take up more space relative to the video due to the length of the film. The Japanese and Spanish audio tracks on Way of Water are also higher bitrate DD+ 7.1 compared to than standard DD 5.1 Spanish and Japanese tracks on the original Avatar.

Both discs are also missing MaxFALL and MaxCLL metadata, so your display's tone mapping algorithm will need to use the default mastering display luminance metadata value.

As I posted in my Streaming Frustrations, Part 2 thread:

If you have Avatar: The Way of Water on digital, double check what version you now have on Prime Video. Back when I reviewed the digital release, I was given the theatrical cut in UHD across all Movies Anywhere retailers. Last week, I noticed that this movie reappeared at the top of my "Watch Now" list, which usually happens when they upgrade a title from HD to UHD. Upon further inspection, the description is now Avatar: The Way of Water Family Audio Track (with Bonus) in UHD.

It says includes bonus but I dont see any bonus or explanation of what the family friendly part of it is.

Family Audio means most profanity had been removed or replaced, and all special features play after the movie. Basically, if you look at the running time, it's a 6 hour 22 minute video file that includes the movie and special features, typical of Prime Video.

Yep, they take out all the naughty words kids use when talking with friends, but are apparently not supposed to hear if watching a film with parents.

And the version they gave me doesn't even have HDR - it may even be only HD, as it never gets above 1080p.

Amazon Executive Customer Relations has been keeping me in the loop on this, and Amazon developers are trying to fix it on their backend, but it may take more time. Apparently, when Disney sent them the version with the Family Audio track, someone changed the Movies Anywhere mapping from the theatrical 4K to this version (which, according to Disney, is ONLY a special feature and is NOT supposed to be sold separately).

Customers have two options :

1. Wait for this to eventually get fixed (and there is NO estimated timeframe on this)

OR

2. Send an e-mail to [email protected] explaining the issue and ask for the correct version to be placed back in your Prime Video library.

Or…….,

Since it’s an MA title, watch it on any of the better streaming services like iTunes, VUDU, or even Disney Plus. All are better than Prime, which is the worst. :D

True, but any retailer that pulls this kind of crap should be called out for it.
