    Hi All

In a 7.1 setup, does the processor employ 1 DAC for two channel or individual DAC for each channel ? Also assuming that the unit has a 6 channel analog input for SACD/DVD Audio, will there be one ADC for a pair of channel ? I have read the specs for Anthem 20, Stage One and Tag AV32R but it is not clear on how many converters they are using.

    Cheers

They are all different and it doesn't make one better then the other. just because brand x only has 1 dac per two channels and brand y has 2 dacs per single channel.

Some of the best have only one dac per 2 channels

it also does matter if brand y uses a 24/192 and brand x uses 24/96.

it takes more than just a dac.

also if it's an analog pass thru there should be no ADC.

Hey Dex: Some DACs are designed to do two channels and some only one. By itself, neither are superior to the other. As to which unit uses which DAC you can usually find out the DAC model numbers from the manufacturer and then look up the DAC on the DAC manufacturer site for details.
