I have a Yamaha AV receiver RX-V567, and it keeps shutting down two or three seconds after I turn it on. I have never used it, I think it happened when a friend and I hooked the speakers up. Is there some kind of surge protector switch or something ? Please help, I can't use it

Try disconnecting all the speakers from the Yamaha. If it works fine after that, then you have a shorted speaker wire somewhere. It only takes one loose strand to get across and make connection to the other side.

There are no speakers hooked to it, it's just the receiver

Thank you for the reply. You most likely know more about it than I. Any help is appreciated

All I did was hook a speaker up, I've never used it, how can a speaker wire fry it? It's not electricity

Well, actually it is. It is just at a level that you would not expect to incur damage. It sounds like the protection circuitry is cutting in. Have you tried unplugging it and let it sit for a couple of minutes to see if the unit resets? If it continues to turn off after doing that then the receiver is probably damaged. You will then have to decide if it is worth taking it to a repair shop for diagnosis and repair.
