Sad to say that one of my very favorite authors, Stephen Ambrose has succumbed to lung cancer. I found his historical biographies to be extremely well written and they were almost impossible to put down once I started one. Among my favorites: Band of Brothers, D-Day June 6, 1944, Pegasus Bridge, Eisenhower: The President. He'll be sorely missed.

Damn. Well, John Keegan is still alive and kicking. I think.

His Citizen Soldiers made me a reader of American history. His great work of breathing life into dusty words will be missed.

I've read lots of his books about WW2. Pretty sad... and 66 isn't even that old!
