I saw someone mention the Audiorefinement pre-pro (I think it's called the Pre-5) in another thread. I went to their web page, but couldn't find any detailed technical info or pricing info. Does anyone have any or know where to get some?

Also, does anyone know what the approximate price of the NAD S-170 pre-pro is?

Finally, how do these two pre-pro's compare to the 950 and 1066?

    Thanks in advance.

    Jack

Here are the retail prices for the AudioRefinement:

    Pre-5 $995.00
    Pre-2 DSP $1395.00

The Pre-2 DSP is their newest, best digital surround pre/pro for now, i beleive they are developing a Pre-5 DSP which will be better, but i'm not sure of a release date yet. The Pre-2 DSP an extremely good looking piece of equipment, coming in black or sliver finishes, and paired with their Mutli-5 power amp it sounds incredible for this price range. In my opinion MUCH better than the Rotel.

The Multi-5 is 125 wpc to 5 channels and retails for $2495.

Unfortunately their web site is out of date, and doesn't have enough info on their products, but if you've ever seen or heard anything by YBA (Audio Refinements parent company) you know just how good of equipment Yves-Bernard Andre designs and makes.

    Brandon,
do you know what the pre-2 has or doesn't have feature wise compared to what the Rotel has? (dacs, bass mgmt, which surround formats it has, etc)
I emailed them a couple days ago but they never responded.

Off the top of my head i couldn't tell exactly what the Rotel has or doesn't have, but here's what i've got about the Pre-2 DSP.

    On-screen display
    Digital by-pass
four digital inputs (one toslink opitical and 3 75 ohm coaxial)
two digital outputs (one toslink and one RCA)
    5.1 analog input and output
four analog RCA inputs with one tape loop
vide switching with 4 s-video, 4 composite and 2 component inputs and one outputs for eack
    motorala's high performance DSP56362 chipset
Up-gradable to Motoral DSP56366 chip and dolby pro logic 2
    two 12 volt triggers
    5 sound field memory presets
    fused IEC component AC cable
    system remote control
    Dolby AC-3 and DTS 5.1

Also when the Pre-5 DSP comes out it will have all the above features plus:
    comparable EX6.1 decoding
six digital inputs (4 RCA and 2 toslink)
two digital outputs (one of each)
    RS232 connectivity port
and a purer and more powerful power supply
*I don't know what the price for it will be yet.

    Hope this helps.

    Jack,
I believe the NAD170 lists for $3500, but it was on-line from YAWA for $2800 (search Yahoo shopping electronics). I was considering the Audio Refinement Pre-2 DSP/Multi 5 combo vs the Rotel 1066/1075 combo, but it came down to price ($3900 vs $2500) and the latest DSP modes (Pre-5 DSP will address most of these). Why not Audio Refnement Pre-2 DSP/Rotel 1075 combo... unacceptable spousal factor (gotta have the same look).
