I have dish network with hd channels. I am running it thru a pioneer receiver. The problem is that the hd channels are the only ones that will play thru the surround. If I turn it on and flip thru the inputs the other channels will play, but only for a few seconds. Any suggestions?

HD channels and some premium channels (HBO, Showtime, Starz, etc), and some PPV channels will be the only ones, that will play in 5.1 surround. You should be able to set your receiver to Pro Logic II, and get the rest of the channels in simulated surround.

Which Pioneer receiver. I have a pair of DirecTV HD boxes connected to my VSX-1014. Most HD channels show up as Dolby Digital. The rest as regular stereo. But no changes are needed to the Pioneer, it recognizes the change automatically.

It's a VXS-D409. It won't play sound thru pro logic either. It was working fine last week, then I got back from vacation last night and it won't work now.
