Has anyone got a guess why the studios are almost going out of their way to obfuscate information as to what audio format has been used?

I realize my eyes ain't what they used to be but DEFINITELY need VERY often bright light and/or a magnifying glass to spot the 5.1 tag or lack of it.

(To say nothing of minimum information often as to what the format is if it ISN'T 5.1 - stereo, 3-channel, etc.)

It's really difficult to understand why they wouldn't be shouting from the rooftops about 5.1 - rather it's more likely your average ant is usually twice the size of the numerals 5.1.

Well - I am right now holding in my hand:

Criterion/Rock -- the '5.1' is LESS than 1 mm.
Universal/U-571 -- about 1 mm
Columbia/Terminator 2 -- about 1 mm.

Your average 'garden variety' ant is about 2 mm. !!

++++

And even IF Warner was the only one - WHY would they do that? And since it seems it is rather general, the question is a bit more significant.

To me, it really means that the studios do not see the 'surround' characteristic as anything important - or??
