Plato refers to Atlantis in his dialogues. He says that got this information from the initiates of ancient Egypt. Plato was a serious writer, so this information must be true. It recalls the migration of the Arias that passed through ancient Egypt and went to Atlantis. In antiquity there were several catastrophes that originated legends like the flood. But, tectonic plates, erupting volcanoes (Vesuvius in Pompeii), tsunamis, etc. It happened. It was Atlantis, myth or truth? It was true. This island continent (like Australia) existed and was located in the Atlantic Ocean, as Plato said, after the Pillars of Hercules, that is, after the Strait of Gibraltar.

The Atlantic Ocean was named for Atlantis.
NASA named a space shuttle after Atlantis.
Stargate: Atlantis ran for five seasons.

By the Rule of Three, this establishes the absolute truth.
(Man From Atlantis ran only 13 episodes, but I will conveniently overlook that bit.)

YMMV (Your mythology may vary)

Nonsense. Being a serious writer has nothing to do with an unwillingness to write fiction. As this article shows, Plato's writing's about Atlantis were nothing more than a moral fable:

The "believers" in Atlantis are the usual suspects--purveyors of various forms of mysticism. L. Sprague de Camp's book on the subject debunks the whole notion.

I recently saw a brilliant and comprehensive documentary on TV about ATLANTIS. Worth seeing if you are a disbeliever.
