At long last the eternal debate/thread starter of "when will we get STAR WARS...any STAR WARS .. on DVD?" is over. Now ...the real question can be asked....I'll be the one to start the post- TPM DVD thread.... "When will the unaltered...un blemished... non-SE version of the original trilogy be released?"

    how about:
Episode II DVD - late 2002.
Episode III DVD - late 2005.
then finally, Lucas returns to the originals:
    Star Wars DVD - mid-2006
Empire Strikes Back DVD - late 2006
Return of the Jedi (and box set of all 6) - mid-2007
Unless he can accelerate the process on the original trilogy and put out all three together.
    Real answer: Who knows? [IMG]

I think the Box set will be out 2008 and will contain something that you can not get by buying the movies seperatly. Thats just how Lucas works.

    To answer Anthony's question: Never
The original Star Wars was not called A New Hope, which recent discovery of a preview of the film in an old Starlog magazine confirms. Whether we get the less altered nonSE release is anyone's guess, but from Lucas' position that also seems like a no.

I have a bootleg VHS copy of Star Wars which was recorded way back then and it, in fact, does NOT say "A New Hope" in the opening.
I am not and do not advocate bootleg movies. This copy was given to me as a gift over 20 years ago. I'm just making a point.

My family argued about the "A New Hope" point when we saw a re-release in the early '80s. Even a few years after it's initial release, and we saw it many times in the theater, we couldn't say for sure.
Back on topic, I certainly hope that Lucas doesn't stick to his original 2006 release plan. It makes good sense to release SW:ANH next year for it's 25th anniversary and to help promote Episode 2.
I could have sworn Sean Connery wore red pants in the initial Zardoz run. I was shocked to discover that Boorman used CGI to remove them for the DVD and replaced them with underwear. [IMG]
