Henri Georges Clouzot is best known for his thrillers ... he was known as the French Hitchcock for his movies such as 'Diabolique', 'Race for Life' and 'The Wages of Fear'.
He also directed one of my all-time favourite movies, just being released in the UK, 'The Mystery of Picasso', a dazzling collaboration with artist Pablo Picasso, exploring the creative process which still astounds the world. Transforming the screen from initial black-and-white Academy ratio into, for the final reel, dazzling widescreen colour, his camera seems to probe the artist's mind as he begins to work, reworks, changes track, transforms the canvas in front of him.
It's being released by Arrow Academy and is indispensable for all who love great movie-making, and great art. I found it at Amazon.co.uk for around 12 pounds. Can't wait to be swept away by it all over again.
