It's always suspicious when a reporter has to resort to filler to pad out the article. To wit:

Among those worst affected are video rental stores, which buy millions of DVDs per year.

"Some stores have reported they only get two or three rentals from a DVD before it's unplayable," said Ross Walden, director of the Australian Video Retailers Association.
Now, nowhere does anyone actually say that these problems with rental discs are caused by "dvd rot", and anyone who's ever received a dirty, scratched-up rental disc knows how easy it is for a disc to become unplayable disc after several rentals -- for reasons having nothing to do with any manufacturing defect.

I was going thru some of my older DVD's and I think my Red Dawn has rotted :frowning:
It was freezing up when it didnt before.
