I’d give my teeth if Arrow could get Leone’s second trilogy….

If they do, you'd better Duck, You Sucker!I’d give my teeth if Arrow could get Leone’s second trilogy….

We hope you agree it'll be worth the wait. We fully expected the films to get more complex to restore as they progressed, but as it happened, they were all about equally monstrously hard, with GBU edging it as the toughest and taking much longer than anticipated to nail down. I have no intention of working on a restoration of a Techniscope post-synced film again (well, maybe Once Upon A Time In The West if the opportunity ever arose... maybe), but I'm very pleased with how these have all shaped out. I'm proud to say that, excluding the "Techniscope handles" (the redundant frames at the start and end of every shot on the two-perf negative that need to be removed for every new restoration), all known surviving footage for GBU is restored in full 4K HDR/Dolby Vision on either the feature streams or the bonus material, including the material unique to the Italian preview versions (with a reconstruction of the "bones in the desert" audio, except for the missing dialogue), the French trailer with the Socorro Sequence footage, and more. Shame we couldn't include the Italian mono audio due to insurmountable rights issues, but everything else should be there!
I can see Arrow releasing Once Upon a Time in the West (Paramount) and Duck, You Sucker (United Artists), since they've put out movies from both studios before. Warners owns Once Upon a Time in America, and they seem to only go through WHV, WAC, or Criterion.I’d give my teeth if Arrow could get Leone’s second trilogy….
Yep. I know America would be the hardest (And, if I’m being honest, the one I’m least interested in, although I’d still love it.). I would certainly prefer a US release of DYS, especially because it wouldn’t necessitate the BBFC cuts, but if Arrow ever could get it, they’d probably only get the UK rights. Paramount’: release of West was a mess, so I’d love a proper release, but I find the probability of Paramount licensing it out pretty unlikely."C'era una volta Il" Trilogy (1968-1984)
C'era una volta Il West [Once Upon A Time In The West] (1968)
Giù la testa [Duck, You Sucker/A Fistful of Dynamite] (1971)
Once Upon a Time In America (1984)
Is this what the Second Trilogy consists of?
Opposition (Licenses from conglomerates) awaiting Arrow Video, should they have plans to release them on UHD
OUATITW (1968) [Paramount]
DYS/AFOD (1971) [MGM] !
OUATIA (1984) [WB/Disney] ?
! If released in the UK, the BBFC will cut out the horsefall regardless of the version (Personally I'd recommend Arrow Video to release the UHD in the United States [to avoid any compulsory BBFC cuts])
? Need a status report on the current rights holders as the 2011 and 2014 BDs were released by Warner Home Video, whilst the repackaging of the Longer Version is released by Fox Home Entertainment, since the film was produced by Alan Ladd Jr.'s production, "The Ladd Company" (regular at WB) [Blade Runner] Arnon Milchan's company "Regency Pictures" (regular at 20th Century-Fox International [later US during 2000s productions]) [Brazil/Legend]
Let me know what think of my post, as I hope it sounded accurate), I means a lot hearing from you.
Thank you![]()
I’d certainly love it if they did, it just seems highly unlikely. But hey, maybe these will sell well and encourage it. Shout Factory has licensing Warners titles for years too.WB has been licensing quite a few titles to Arrow recently: Cobra, Demolition Man, Swordfish, The Cell, Dark City, Long Kiss Goodnight, Man From Uncle, The Terminal Man, Clash of The Titans(remake) & its sequel.
OUATIA is a difficult title and considering its stature not one that Warner has shown a lot of love for.AFAIK, those are still very specific deals, like Criterion's, not examples of Warner opening the gates more generally.
But one can only hope Arrow have licenced Cobra, Friday the 13th 2008, Swordfish and Clash of the Titans remakes because it gave them access to OUATIA !
Even the original mono for OUATITW is apparently too much to ask.OUATIA is a difficult title and considering its stature not one that Warner has shown a lot of love for.
So I would not rule out that Arrow could get it.
But even if they don't I would also love to have all 5 Leone western from them as both my UHD of OUATITW and my BD of DYS are rather underwhelming.
