With the two preceding films in his "Dollars" trilogy having unleashed a boom in Euro Western productions, Sergio Leone knew that his concluding chapter would have to top them all. Armed with his largest budget yet, Leone created what is, for many, the final word on the subject - a violent, picaresque epic presented with operatic scope and intensity, with Clint Eastwood donning the iconic hat and poncho one last time.

A partnership between two scoundrels, Blondie (Eastwood) and Tuco (Eli Wallach) goes awry, only for fate to intervene in the form of information about a cache of stolen Confederate gold buried in a graveyard. Each possessing a different clue to its location, the pair are forced into a distrustful partnership. However, the gold is also sought by Angel Eyes (Lee Van Cleef), a ruthless mercenary with his own twisted code of honour. Thus begins a desperate pursuit amidst the mass destruction and absurdity of the American Civil War, culminating in an iconic three-way standoff inside the graveyard.

Mythic, cynical and endlessly entertaining, The Good, The Bad and The Ugly brings Leone's grand sense of dramatic scale to its apotheosis. Arrow Films is proud to present this landmark Western in the most comprehensive edition ever assembled, featuring both cuts of the film meticulously restored in glorious 4K, and a wealth of new and archival bonus materials.

So…

Now, after everyone has presumably purchased the film in 4k, there’s a NEW scan with everything done properly from the beginning?

Promising.

I see the second disc lists deleted and alternate scenes, but doesn't mark it as a new feature. Did prior releases have them?

Either way as I've said before, all the new extras on each of these new editions are enough to make me buy 'em once more.

My thoughts are the same. I bought the kino sets as I felt it was stated this is is as good as it gets…

I watched For a Few Dollars More yesterday and was really satisfied. Once one gets past the opening titles (which nonetheless have less digital filtering than the Kino Lorber), it's a satisfying watch, with better picture and audio quality than the Kino Lorber. The mono audio is superb but I also like the 5.1 mix - which is much better than on the Kino Lorber. Maybe the whole A/V experience wasn't quite as good as A Fistful of Dollars, but certainly the best I've ever seen it look. Until a brand new scan and restoration is performed, this will be the one to keep.

Looking forward to The Good, the Bad and the Ugly! A Fistful of Dollars is already sold out and For a Few Dollars More is going fast, so those who haven't preordered The Good, the Bad and the Ugly yet, will likely miss out if they keep waiting. There's no way these are going to drop in price!

I thought about getting this edition as it has the longer cut on 4K Blu-ray but I like the Kino releases for the film. Id rather save my $$ and buy something new to Blu-ray or 4K

Same. I may just wait for the next remaster release. These films are constantly given new transfers for new release. It’s seems like it’s only a matter of time that another version shows up….

Personally, I do not like the longer cut. The dubbing of dialog by much older Clint Eastwood and Eli Wallach, plus a Lee Van Cleef impersonator, sound out of place, and the grotto scene with Tuco waxing poetic does not fit the rest of the film and is downright bizarre.

I haven't purchased any of these releases, despite being a big fan of the films. I am waiting for the regular Arrow releases. However, if they release TGTBATU with only the longer cut, I will not be buying and will remain satisfied with the Kino releases.

I concur with your opinion about For a Few Dollars More. This is probably the last time I purchase it on physical media because I'm satisfied with this Arrow 4K/UHD and will most likely watch it over the Kino 4K/UHD.

This is my last physical media purchase of TGTBATU once Arrow ships my 4K/UHD. Two 4K/UHD releases and three four different Blu-ray releases are enough for me.:)

Edit: It's actually four different Blu-ray releases in my disc collection.

I said that after purchasing the Kino 4K releases. I have probably bought these 3 films more on home video than any others. But if I do buy the Arrow regular releases, it will definitely be the final time.

I’ve lost track but I have reached buyer fatigue for sure. I’m sure an American label will do another release with HDR in the future.

The Kino 4K/UHD would have been my final purchase if it had HDR. Anyhow, two 4K/UHD and four Blu-ray releases is enough for me.

Yeah I’m out. I don’t watch these films much anymore. I may just sell my kinos and live with the
Lousy mgm digital versions.

I actually like these three films a lot more today than when I first watched them during their theatrical run. Once TGTBATU 4K/UHD arrives from Arrow, this will be the third time I watched each film in just the last 3-4 years. I still hate the sound of the gunshots and the dubbing in the films but I’ve come to appreciate them more as I gotten older.

I may go back to dvd for here. It seems I enjoyed them much more in those days.

I actually went to watch the kino 4k discs and didn’t finish them. I just wasn’t into the films this time.

If you do not plan to watch them anyway then the DVDs seem like a much better choice than expensive UHDs ;)

Myself I have only peeked into the TGTBATU Kino disc and I did not like its somehow limited colors and crushed blacks but I would have watched it this year with my kids for lack of something better.

Luckily the Arrow release was announced just in time and soon we will be able to watch TGTBATU in the best available quality.

Who in this thread are waiting for the Intermission [Intervallo/Intermezzo] Titles to be restored to the film? [via seamless branching at UHD Disc 2] (originally present at the Italian Premiere, located after Blondie Splashes coffee on Tuco's face in a mission)

Protip: Try fetching up the Quartet Records 2-CD release and look at Disc 2, Track 17 where it says "Intermezzo Musicale"

P.S. I think you'll be needing to be filled in with this other unique deleted scene (in case you folks are already aware of the Deleted Soccoro Scene)

If MGM hasn't rediscovered this scene with Footage or Audio (Italian or English), please do present stills (or more still where that came from) or excerpts script on the Arrow Video UHD.

Thank you and happy reading :)
