From Alex Proyas, visionary director of The Crow, comes Dark City, a mind-bending science fiction thriller set in a shadowy world where the sun never rises and nothing is quite what it seems.

John Murdoch (Rufus Sewell) wakes in a hotel bathtub with no memory of who he is or how he got there, but there's a body on the floor with bloody spirals carved into the flesh and a voice on the phone that tells him to flee. Soon Murdoch is on the run, wanted by the police, a woman who claims to be his wife and a group of mysterious pale men who seem to control everyone and everything in the city... except him.

With a cast that includes Kiefer Sutherland (The Lost Boys), William Hurt (A History of Violence), Jennifer Connelly (Phenomena) and Richard O'Brien (The Rocky Horror Picture Show), and a script by Proyas, Lem Dobbs (Kafka) and David S. Goyer (Batman Begins), Dark City is a riddle wrapped in a mystery inside an enigma, filmed through a lens of film noir and German expressionism... an extraordinary feast for the cinematic senses.

HDR should do wonders for this movie.

Regarding the "Box o' Junk" extras: I actually really enjoy most of the stuff Arrow (and other labels) pack with these things, but one thing that I've never quite figured out is what the hell am I supposed to do with "art cards" or "lobby cards" or "random behind-the-scenes photo prints?" Frame them? Look at them once and put them back in the box? Use as scrap paper? Does anybody have any interesting uses for these things?

Great news for a great movie. Really happy that both cuts of the film were remastered in 4K, plus we're getting quite a lot of substantial new supplements. The reproduction postcard and calling card are a nice touch.

What do you mean by "sleeper"?
For Me, It never got the love that I thought it should have received...at the time the distribution was pretty low key. I do remember it playing with another feature and I didn't see it again until it showed up later on cable movie channels. It did win some awards, but with this and the less complicated "Nate and Hayes" romp, was passed over by many, yet though channels on cable and later satellite offerings, brought it back to the audience that had originally been drawn to these films. Getting a nice restoration is one amazing piece of news!! Sorry that I hit a nerve, it wasn't intentional ~

I received my copy of the 4K yesterday. Another beautifully packaged premium release from Arrow! I spot-checked a few scenes and it looks FABULOUS. Hopefully it'll get a review here at HTF soon.

According to Arrow's notes the DC scenes are upscaled from the 2k master created for that release. I just hope the awful noise reduction that marred that release wasn't baked in.

I don't know how many times I've seen this. Probably at least a dozen. I also don't know when the last time was. It's been a while.

Mine arrived today, and this is a rare occasion where I was specifically waiting to watch it. So... here we go.

Mine also arrived today but I won't be able to watch it because I have so many other titles ahead of it.

My copy arrived last week. Night and day difference between the old New Line Blu-ray. The director's cut exclusive footage simply looks a little grainier and rougher than the theatrical cut, but kind of adds an interesting texture. Might be my pick for my favorite Arrow release ever.

HDR should do wonders for this movie.
HDR did do wonders for this movie. Night-and-day improvement over the old Blu-ray master.

For the entire existence of the UDH format, I've felt that The Crow and Dark City could be poster children for HDR, and now we've got them both.

I don't remember anything of this movie!
I wonder if I should buy the limited edition, before it sells out.
By the way, what is this with the tactic of releasing a standard edition afterwards with just the director's cut? (they did that with Robocop, JFK and other movies)
The theatrical cut of the film should be foremost available!

HDR does make a big difference here. It’s obvious from the opening scene.

Soundtrack really plumbs the depths too.

Pre-ordered this from Amazon, but once again they're completely useless and have zero stock. Ordering from Arrow directly. It'll cost me $15 more, but at least I'll get it.

FWIW, it looks very good. It's been so long since I have watched the theatrical version (I watched the DC) I can't remember exactly which scenes were added. I just know the couple shots with Mae's daughter are DC only, and those looked perfectly fine to my non-nitpicking eyes.

I pre-ordered mine from Amazon as well, and while I think I had to approve it shipping later than expected, I received it. It showing as currently not available in no way means they will never have it. A little patience is in order. Honestly, with Arrow in particular, if there's a title I definitely want, I order it pretty much as soon as possible. I know they will price adjust it. When I ordered Dark City it was $60, but I got it for nearly half of that. It seems that Arrow is severely limiting their runs.

The limited edition was nowhere to be found except the US Arrow site.
I searched for my country in the international shipping, and it didn't have it, but I made my order and they took it.
I hope they don't cancel it.

The limited edition is still available for $45 on Arrow website. It however needs to be configured as showing the US products and not the UK ones. You can find this at the very top right of the website. Clicking on the small flag will allow to select your own country (for delivery), the "Region & Language", which is the store itself (which needs to be set up to United States), and finally the currency.

I ordered the US LE 2 days ago.
