Is this the new trial waiting to be of this decade? We might have multiple celebrity trials going on at once, it appears *shrug*

MSNBC says they issued it about 30 minutes ago, and they expect an arrest before the end of the day.

Hmmm, it seems that some of Michael's older songs are almost ironic today, especially "Bad" and "Beat It" :D :D

They were having a call in poll on a local AM station on whether he would jump off a bridge or flee to another country, and if flee, what country (most popular seemed to be Brazil).

In the end I can't help but feel a little pity for MJ- he was, at some point, a real talent and should have been a national treasure--- but the ability to completely lose touch of reality becomes infinitely easier when you have limitless wealth and resources... when no one ever tells you NO, sometimes you just lose track of what makes sense. If you have a predisposition to mental conditions to begin with, having infinite money and a staff of people to tell you how correct you are- it becomes real easy to drift away (Howard Hughes, Robert Durst and to a lesser degree Prince come to mind).

Not to say I excuse anything the guy does, he's certainly a nutjob, but it almost seems like a natural progression of anyone who is able to insulate themselves from the world with money. I shudder to think what my mindset would be like if I was given near-infinite resources and was able to insulate myself from reality as effectively. I'd probably be a similar nutjob.

"How do you tell Prince he can't get a live Camel at 3 o'clock in the morning in Minnesota?"

A columnist over on MSNBC.com named Michael Ventre wrote a piece called "Michael Jackson still doesn't get it."

That's probably the fairest assessment of the guy. Especially in outlining how many just plain dumb mistakes Michael makes that just don't look good... like collaborating with the subject of a child pornography investigation on his latest album and readily admitting to having "sleepovers" with young boys.

Like Ventre says, Michael just doesn't get it.

There are certainly well known wacko rich people, but are rich people in general really more wacko than the non-rich, or is their wackiness simply better publicized? There are many non-wacky rich people as well as non-rich people. Ultimately, of course, it all comes down to personal responsibility.

A fair question- I think maybe it would be more accurate to say that infinite resources coupled with the "worship" status of being a popular entertainer. Certainly there are probably many sane wealthy people (although, looking around, sometimes it's tough to really find one)-- but coupling that wealth with the status afforded "fame" - you get a combination that allows people to really believe they have devine privledge.

To put it another way, how many "sane" people are there in Hollywood? My arguement would be, among those people making big bank, very very few. I mean, how often do you hear Hollywood types gushing about how "down-to-earth" a co-star is? Pretty often I would say, and it would only get mentioned if it was really a rare and surprising quality to have.

Do you ever come away from your barber thiking, "Gosh that guy was really down to earth"? Nope. Sanity is an everyday and excpected thing for "regular people", but seemingly a commodity in the circles of Fame and Fortune.

IMHO.

I think when people use that phrase, they're referring to a lack of an exaggerated sense of self importance. We shouldn't confuse such a sense with a person's level of sanity. One could make the same comment about Presidents, and no one questions their sanity.

What about the parents of these children? The guy has a widely known reputation of this and yet you're gonna drive your 12 year old boy to his ranch to hang out? These parents were just dangling a worm in front of a fish in hopes of getting a big payday.

If he's guilty then convict him but don't award a single dime to the parents if they sue.

Amazing how they want him to turn in his passport? I thought you only need a passport to return to the country, not leave.
