I am fortunate enough to own the Limited Edition and this sounds just like it. Minus the Official and Bootleg, but keep the Edition.
I hope it's not though, because I cherish my LE and would feel like it's not that limited anymore.

There is no mention of this release on Anchor Bay's website either.

Yeah, it sucks when everyone who wants a copy of a movie can have one.
    [/sarcasm]!
    Hence: limited edition my ass.

Its too bad the UNIVERSAL Extended cut couldnt be put out -if I recall it had its own diffences with the AB SE, and on top of it, it looked like the inserted footage was in grade "A" shape, from what I could see when it aired on SCI-FI, unlike the inserted footage on the AB SE...

What surprised me about the director's cut on the Anchor Bay LE was that Raimi hadn't reinstated the cut made to the scene in the pit where Ash cuts the witch in half with the chainsaw. It was obviously shortened (no blood AT ALL in an Evil Dead film?!?!), and since the director's cut was unrated anyway, it would have been nice for it to be uncut as well.

Actually all that was cut gorewise from the witch scene(you're talking about the pit scene right?) was a huge gush of blood splattering agaisnt the wall.
That's not in the theatrical cut,but in the Director's Cut!

quote: What irritates me is limiting availability in the first place; I can't figure out who it's actually beneficial for[/quote]
The distributors and peope who squirrel them away. Limiting the quantity creates a sense of urgency and sometimes panic in consumers. It's the tried and true "supply and demand." By aking only 50,000 available, the studio knows with much more certainty that they are going to sell X copies.

As for the bad rap about the characters--hey, I've seen space operas that put their emphasis on human personalities and relationships. They're called "Star Trek" movies. Give me transparent underwater cities and vast hollow senatorial spheres any day. --Roger Ebert on The Phantom Menace

This is indeed listed on Amazon. No need for a link, please go look for yourself. I also read a pretty good commentary that Paul Russell, Pres. of www.dvdangle.com, wrote about so-called "Special" and "Limited" editions of dvd's. He specifically talked about AOD and how the Director's cut of the 2-disc limited was then re-printed into a single disc limited edition(which I own) and how people who bought the 2 disc were outraged. Now it seems like it is happening with the one-discer that came out last fall. One of the last thing's Mr. Russell said was that it simply wouldn't make since for a studio to never re-print something that was once limited again, because it gives people a second chance to own it. I just wish Anchor Bay would wait more than one year before doing all this re-issuing of AOD(First the 2-disc/then the 1-disc/now the bootleg). I'm mean c'mon, the whole LE of the AOD DC for $15?($20 retail) I wish I hadn't paid $40 for my single disc LE on e-bay at Christmas. Not to spoil it for people who don't own one of the LE's-but I hope that something will be changed or left out of this new edition so it still makes our previous LE's seem like something, I don't know, more..."limited." Oh well-I(we) knew it would happen eventually.
    Peace Out,
    Blake Solomon

On the Anchor Bay chat a few weeks ago this question was asked:
Michael,The Army of Darkness Limited Editions (both single and double dvds)
are selling for $80+ at places like Ebay are there any chances of a re-release of the
Army of Darkness Limited Edition, and what's the status of Evil Dead and Bad Taste?
MichaelFelsher: well...we aren't going to re-release the AOD 2 Disc Set, however
that doesn't mean the Director's Cut will stay unavailable though.
So Michael Felsher pretty much said right there that Directors Cut is being re-released, obviously as this Official Bootleg Edition.

You would think one of the review sites would have made an announcement on this title or Anchor Bay would have said something about in their last chat, especially with it supposedly coming out in less than a month. AB could be generating more sales from people right now not buying the title on Ebay presently and pre-ordering instead, and also from word of mouth if an announcement was made.
I have a sneaking suspicion this will be delayed, but you never know.
