Argh! What's with the damn pileup of programming on Mondays?

House
Chuck
HIMYM/BBT
Gossip Girl

All filling the slot..

It's like you need 2 or 3 DVRs...

Fox really screwed me up by moving House to Mondays. I have watched that show from the beginning but tonight marks the end. I can only watch/record 2 shows at a time and the the slot was already filled by 2 of my favorite shows. That spells the end for me and House. :frowning:

Well, luckily I can record two shows while watching a third, but it is still gonna kinda suck because now I have to watch the show "live", and can't zap commercials or pause to make a pit-stop. I mean, how twentieth century!

(I'm already doing the same with Lie to Me, which is in another over-crowded timeslot.)

Later,

I don't know why, but Mondays have pretty much always been a busy recording night for me with usually 4-5 shows that I watch. Its usually two per timeslot though, so I guess I luck out with that. And with no 10PM show on Monday nights that I care about this year like the past two had, that becomes much easier.

And I like House and watch it regularly, but it really can be summed up by:

8:00 - Person gets sick
8:01 to 8:55 - House is an ass, comes up with wrong theories, some of which make the patient worse, some make the patient seem better for a while
8:55 - House does something unrelated to the case and suddenly has a breakthrough
8:56 to 8:59 - House is still an ass, and browbeats the patient until they accept his final answer

That's what she said.

I can record three HD channels at once, but since I don't watch Chuck and GG, the pile-up night for me is Thursday, with:

Survivor/CSI
Earl/Office/30 Rock
Ugly Betty
Bones/Hell's Kitchen

All trying to fill three openings (that's what she said).

I have a respite for now since Survivor doesn't start until 2/12 and I can watch CSI in HD On Demand instead, but something will have to shift to... other means *cough* until March when Betty is on hiatus.

The recording rules in my house are:

If it's in HD (network shows) and is not going to be streamed the next day on Hulu or one of the other network websites, I DVR it. House comes to mind.

If it's not in HD (meaning I don't have digital cable service) and is not streamed the next day, I DVR it. Monk is on this list, along with our TNT stuff.

If I can see it online within a day or two of original airing, I don't DVR it.

I use my HTPC to DVR HD network programming, and my Panasonic DVR (they don't make em anymore) to record my SD stuff that I cannot see online (closer, leverage, etc., clone wars, etc.)

My wife is grumbling about how every show worth watching is now on Monday. But we've now got two Tivos, so it's a easier to manage.

Re: watching online, do you watch on your computer or have an HTPC-type setup? I still find online TV unacceptable, except for the rare Tivo-goof on something like Chuck or Heroes. But with my new TV I need to experiment again with Mac->TV viewing.

I can record 3 shows in SD, and 2 shows in HD at the same time, but with my 50" TV stolen, watching my 12 year old 27" TV has almost killed my interest in watching TV at times to the point that some show have fallen by the wayside for me this season, which might be actually a good thing in the long run, but hopefully I'll remedy the TV situation this month.

USA airs repurposed episodes of House (in HD, if you get USA-HD) a couple weeks after their original airings (on Friday or Saturday nights, I think).

Personally, my big pileup is going to be Wednesdays at 9 for the next few weeks. With Life returning this week, I have Lost, Lie to Me and Life airing then. One of the latter 2 will be relegated to online viewing (probably LTM). I think FOX is moving LTM to 8:00 in a couple weeks, so that'll help that.

Then next month, Mondays at 9 become a problem with 24/Heroes/Rules of Engagement once ROE returns (with ROE getting the online treatment).

Oh man, I forgot about that, I have that issue too... but luckily I've got two dual tuner cards in my HTPC for 4 tuners total. Besides that, I'm not exactly sure if I'll keep watching Lie to Me much longer, but we'll see.

I was original bummed about my Tuesdays, because Secret Life of the American Teenager, 90210, Biggest Loser and Idol all aired that night. Then they moved Secret Life to Mondays at 8pm and they reair the epsiode of 90210 on Wednesdays, so that leaves only two shows to record on Tuesdays.

My television schedule is:

Mondays: Secret Life, Big Bang Theory, How I Met Your Mother and Heroes

Tuesdays: Idol, Biggest Loser

Wednesdays: 90210, Idol

Thursdays: Survivor

I usually catch up on SLAT and 90210 at 6am after I get my oldest off to school, because no one else in the house watches those two shows.

I can record 5 channels (ATSC & cable) while watching a recorded show or a 6th channel live. So far the network programmers have not been able to beat me.

As Scott mentioned above, "House" shows up a little later on USA. Not sure what he means by repurposed, I'm guessing maybe slightly edited from the original broadcast? I think "Bones" also repeats somewhere within a week or two.

"Heroes" used to show up on G4, still does, but not sure if it's current or not. "Hell's Kitchen" pops back up on FoxRC. "Desperate Housewives" repeats Saturday somewhere. Also like how "Lost" has been repeating the previous episode before the next new one.

With Comcast, CBS shows like Survivor and the CSI type shows are all available no-charge using On-Demand the next day, think they stay available for about a month. For USA they finally added "Psych" and "Burn Notice" to On-Demand, if you happen to miss the 14 chances to catch an episode while it plays during it's initial week. There are probably others, but a lot of stuff reappears somewhere else pretty quickly if you do miss it, so it's not as bad as things used to be.

BBC America has also started showing repeats of older "Kitchen Nightmares". un-bleeping the US version to allow some of the language edits back in.

Watched the first two episodes of "The Beast" on A&E, not impressed. What's weird is that it's being shown with language edits, very obvious that dialogue is being chopped. It's like they're going in reverse, using an edited sound-track, but filming it with adult language in case it plays on a more mature channel?

Mondays are definitely my worst, Thursdays also kind of a pain. I've pretty much dropped "Chuck" and "Grey's Anatomy". Will catch them this summer during repeat season.
