Well considering the SRP is $100 on these, the $9 price is good. But the drivers are in a Dipole configuration, not bipolar. (Bipolars fire forward and backwards. These seem to fire 45 degrees ).

Bob,

I beleive that if you look the word Bi-Polar up in the

Websters Dictionary that the definition will basicly mean

"Multiple Paths" so therfore these are Bi-Polar speakers as

they eminate sound amongst 2 distinct paths or planes.

Would you not agree?

One thing I don't understand is how Ubid works, I see that

someone met the reserve price which is $34.00 and the Qty up

for bid is 152 pieces. So does this mean that If I bid $34.00

that I will get a pair for $34.00 or a pair for $68.00?

@ $68.00 it's not that great of a bargain because you can

just go over to ebay and "Buy It Now" that cheap.

I have only done the ubid.com thing once, but I believe with speakers your bid is on an individual speaker, but you must buy a pair, so yes, you would be spending $68 plus shipping. I have no idea about these speakers, I just thought that they may be a good deal and something that many here might be interested in.

BTW, on e-bay, the opening bid is $100, and you can "buy it now" for $300(well over Kenwood's MSRP of $180-220).

Kendal,

I have heard nothing but Ubid horror stories in the past

and when I checked the Shipping And Handling at Ubid on

these speakers, it's no wonder I hear horror stories!

Ok so you pay $68.00 for the pair and then the shipping

for normal ground service is $30.00 + $.99 Per POUND...

So basicly your going to wind up paying at the very least

$100.00 for these speakers and I have seen them on ebay

for $100.00 plus reasonable shipping and from vendors you

can trust.

I guess it's all in what you feel more comfortable dealing

with.

I have bought many, many items on Ubid but you must shop and bid wisely. Also, I only buy Ubid warehoused items. Usually, I can turn around and sell the Ubid items for 20-50% markup on Ebay the following week. Some items, like a Toshiba SD-C6109 ($259 delivered), 2 Replay TV 3060s ($332 delivered) and the Denon DRA-375RD ($134 delivered) I keep for my own use. Occasionally, they ship me a refurbed unit advertised as new, or a unit without the remote. That's when we deal... but I NEVER lose any money or sleep over it.

YMMV!

Don't know anything about these speakers. Have purchased from ubid in past with no problems.

Your dictionary provided a general definition for the word "bipolar," but not a specific definition as applied to loudspeakers. In short, a bipole retains all drivers in phase, whereas a dipole has one or more drivers out of phase.

Magnepan's planars and Martin-Logan's electrostatics are dipoles, as are the surround speakers offered by Paradigm and Atlantic Technology, among others. Definitive Technology and Mirage are known for their bipoles.
