So, how many of the 97 club are still around?

What is the 97 club? Those who found and joined the HTF early in its web life. (Not counting the Delphi years).

There are 35 members listed with this distinction. Just wondering who is left.

    P.S. It is FINALLY dead.

    Aurel...

There is the "members" tab (near the search tab). You can
then list HTF members alphabetically, by posts, or by join date.

I heard several of "The 35" are still doing time as a result of their actions in the DIVX riots.

Yup, right here. That was a strange time - the posts were all listed in order, you could just scroll down and find them based on subject and response to subject.

Lots of discussions when we moved to subdivide.

Mine says October 1997. Whether it was October, May, or September, doesn't matter. October's pretty close.

What a ride... what a ride!

I'm from later in '98. Ah, yes. In those days we had to walk through three feet of snow to get to our PC's to post on HTF. And you try to tell this to the young ones today, and they won't believe you. [IMG]

Huh? "97 Club"? I didn't know us old-timers had our own club.

I remember the days of RAF and Mike Knapp being regular participants here. Remember when some guy name Ron Epstein used to be the one asking the questions? Ah...those were the days. [IMG] In fact, Ron was the one who actually convinced me to go ahead and buy that Sony DVD player I had been eyeballing. Much to the chagrin of my wife.

The funny thing is, I've pretty much slipped under the radar during most of my sojourn here. I'm sure most of the old timers don't even know who I am. Maybe that can be another experiment...Who's been around the longest, is a regular member, but is a virtual ghost? [IMG] Say the name Obi and everyone knows who you're talking about. Bring up my name and you'll just get a "Who?" Not that there's anything wrong with that. [IMG]

(Mine says August, but it could have been September, I don't know. All I know is it was sometime in the later months of '97. When the forum software changed our dates didn't carry over and Parker had to go in and manual edit them. You'll notice that many people don't even have "dates joined" listed.)

For some reason my "join date" in the Members area is blank. But I know I was very active both here and at DVD Resource even before I bought my first Sony S3000 in January, 1998, so I think I go back to 97. If not, damned close.

I'm a '98er. I got my first DVD player, an S3000 like some others here, in January of 98. Shortly after I found the Bits, DVD File, and of course Steve's site. Boy those dark days of divx were fun. I lurked at DVD Resource before moving over here and lurking for some time, then finally signed up in Dec. of 1998. I'd been on the net since 1990, but this is actually the first forum I ever joined, and its the one I've spent the most time at for sure.

I'm in the '97 club. Work and life has been busy of late so I'm not as active as I once was, but I still try to log in every day. I actually go way back to the Prodigy and CIS days.

Thinking about it, I have to wonder if there's anyone that's been around since '97 that wasn't a LaserDisc collector. Is there anyone around from way back then that was just using VHS?

I'm a pretender. I began lurking in January of 98, but I didn't actually become a member until a year later. After lurking for so long, I felt like you all were my bestest best friends (including you, Bill), but nobody knew who the heck I was. All the forums I had participated in before were just newsgroups, which I hated, so I didn't jump right in when I discovered this place. Looking back, I don't know why I hesitated.

Man, I feel cheated. I lurked early and often before buying my S3000 in January of 1998, but at some point I lost my password and had to re-register[IMG]

Oh well, at least this gives me the chance to jump on the "Hey, I was here a long time ago, too" bandwagon, just to prove how much cooler I am than the 'new' people[IMG]
