I came across this on EBAY:
    http://cgi.ebay.com/aw-cgi/eBayISAPI...tem=1496502017
But before I buy them I'm curious if any resident experts think they are genuine or bootlegs.
I am not interested in buying bootlegs as they are usually of poor quality and rarely have collector value, but if this is a genuine release it would make a great addition to my growing collection of Star Wars LD/DVD/VHS.

There has been a legit release of the Star Wars trilogy on VCD. This looks to be real. IIRC, this came out about the same time as the last VHS trilogy release last year.

Calling it "almost identical to DVD" is a bit of a stretch, though...we're talking pan&scan, and VHS resolution.

    Thanks for the info!
I figured that at ten bucks a movie, it wasn't exactly going to be a Criterion Edition [IMG]
Actually, after posting I did a search and found a few places that sell VCD online. One even had a better price than the "buy it now" price on Ebay so I got it, and Planet of the Apes for 7.50, which ain't bad.
If anyone wants to know, I can report on audio/video quality when I get them.

Well. First you have to know the source of these Video CDs. If they are the Hong Kong releases then yes, you are getting near or as good as VHS quality. But if they are from Malaysia, you would be getting less than VHS quality. For some strange reason, Hong Kong distributors take more pride in Video CD releases(using better video transfers or in some cases even new video transfers) while Malaysian distributors prefer to use the same PAL VHS transfers.

I bought them just for the collectability. The quality is below VHS in my opinion.

I will post my opinions on the quality after I view them.

I'm curious to see if VCD is in fact better or crappier than VHS...at 8 bucks plus 1 dollar shipping it's a great deal for 90 minutes of entertainment.

I guess it depends, like everything else, on who did the transfer, equipment, previous evening's alcohol consumption, etc.

I'd get them if they were on SVCD!

    SVCD? Super Video CD?

Does Blockbuster have a scent for these?
