I keep my resume online and get the occaisional call from recruiters (headhunters). I use this my own barometer of the job market. My limited experience over the past two years suggests they are an accurate indicator of who's hiring in my field. (It's primarily defense. Commercial work is still pretty slow.)

How about it: do you think recruiters are good gauge for the state of the job market? What about for the economy in general?

I've been getting a lot more headhunter calls these days. I don't have any sort of resume on line, but they find me anyway (I have to maintain contact information with the CA bar and with the USPTO). These are all real jobs so I can only surmise that the economy is improving.
