Or at least as far as A/V
switching is concerned. Would a THX or higher end receiver provide a clearer sharper picture and
better audio than a mid or low
end receiver. Thanks

I would suspect that if you were interested in component switching in a receiver that it would behoove you to find a receiver that has the necessary bandwidth to the do the job adequately, else you would regret buying a receiver and using it for switching between component video sources.
For composite and s-video switching, I would not over-worry about the video switching between most well-known receiver models/manufacturers.
