Today, April Fool’s Day. Mention the name Fred Walton to the most experienced of horror movie aficionados and you’ll likely get a response mentioning one of two films he’s best known for directing. The first of course is When a Stranger Calls (1979) – based upon Walton’s 1977 short film The Sitter – which is noted for its intense opening 23 minutes and considered as one of the scariest openings in film history. The other is April Fool’s Day, a send-up on the Friday the 13th formula of slasher films during the 1980’s. Previously released on DVD by Paramount and Blu-ray by Shout Factory – through their Scream Factory label – Kino has licensed the movie for its UHD Blu-ray debut.
