I don't understand that link. Why do you score all those varying predictions? How does that relate to one's own predictions?

It finally made sense to me (I found that site confusing in its explanation). Pity there's no simple way to match e.g. John Gruber's comments to that prediction sampler. I'm not going to bother matching "yes,no,yes,no,no,no,yes..." to a multi-page form to decipher opinions.

There are fundamental differences: I don't remember GIF being higher quality than JPEG. On the other hand h.264 is clearly superior to Ogg Theora -- Google stated reason for not supporting Ogg Theora in Chrome. (Apple's reason for not supporting it is fear of patent lawsuits -- which I take at face value considering some of the absurd suits they attract). Also, unlike JPEG, Ogg Theora use at this point is, well, theoretical, while h.264 is very widely used.

I suspect the Firefox people will blink here first. Has the Mozilla foundation even tried to reach an agreement with the reps for the h.264 IP?

I'm going to go out on a limb here and make a subtle prediction that I don't think has a lot of traction so far, and despite what Mr. Gruber says, I think it hearkens back to that video. The Tablet is going to be about content CONSUMPTION, books in particular yes, but moreso, I think it is going to at least be initially pointed straight at the heart of something very different:

EDUCATION.

If that's true, the Jobs "This may be my most important release ever" quote actually makes sense.

That would test my resolve. But I mean to wait for the next hardware update. Verizon would just make it perfect. :)

Unless the AT&T ads are true, that you can't do voice and data simultaneously on Verizon. Then I'll have to consider switching anyway.

Appreciate Carlo starting this thread.

What site(s) are doing live streaming coverage today?

I won't be here to do a live recap but I am certain
one of you will post all the relevant information.

How about these "facts" from Jason Calacanis?

- OLED screen
- Solar pad on rear for charging
- Built in HDTV Tuner and video recording functionality
- Thumb pads on either side
- Built in chess game
- Fingerprint recognition (up to five different users)
- Two cameras on front and rear (one for videoconferencing)
- A wireless keyboard and monitor connection
- Price: $599, $699, and $799
(I don't understand why the Engadget founder isn't posting his stuff at Engadget. These seem pretty out there for me, but I don't know why someone would post crazy rumors knowing they'd be demonstrably wrong in a few hours. None of this makes sense to me, unless it's an imposter.)

The HDTV tuner and PVR make no sense to me at all for this. If it has it, it would be a cool feature, but it would also defy the others who have worked on the wireless TV side.. and it would also mean the thing would have to have significant hard drive space to mean anything, which also kills the point.

Put in a nickname but NOT a login name. Make sure you have Push to Talk enabled or you'll get kicked until you fix it!

Gotta hand it to Apple. For all the hype there's been VERY little real leaking!
