I've noticed a problem today with some iTunes movies on my AppleTV 4. Some that are suppose to play with 7.1 audio are only outputting stereo.

Movies I have checked and seen the problem on are:

Doctor Strange
Finding Dory
Star Trek Beyond
Big Hero 6
Captain America Civil War
The BFG
Pete's Dragon (2016)

I know these movies have played 7.1 before but today they are only sending stereo.

Some movies are working just fine. ET plays 5.1 just fine, Captain America TWS plays 7.1 correctly as well. I have tried everything in my collection but more seem to have the problem then do not.

I have also restarted my ATV and tried different HDMI inputs and cables. Also checked many of these movies on Vudu through my PS4 and 7.1 works on all of them.

Also, I noticed that one the ones not playing 7.1, the other audio options for the movie are not showing up as well, ie French stereo etc.

I anyone has some of these movies can you check your Apple TV and see if you get 7.1. Like I said, I know some of these have worked correctly in the past, Star Trek Beyond, Civil War, Pete's Dragon and The BFG I know for sure. I swear Doctor Strange worked correctly last night.

You need to read this from apple support: https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT204069
Specifically:
Over HDMI, the Best Quality Available setting outputs Dolby Digital 7.1 or 5.1 as uncompressed LPCM. Some receivers might not show Dolby Digital as the current format, even though there's no loss in audio quality.
Since I don't have the 4th generation Apple TV, I wasn't aware that Apple TV now supports Dolby Digital+ 7.1. They have obviously now added 7.1 encodes to the movies on the list you show, and now your receiver sees them as LPCM 7.1.

I've gone through all the settings I can think of and everything looks right. Everything has worked great until today. My AVR reports 2/0/0 for almost every movie I try, not just DD+ ones but also regular old DD. I'm just frustrated because I don't know if it is something on my end or Apple's. The movies that are not working right also don't show any other language audio options that are suppose to be there, like French or Spanish. That's why I hope it is something on Apple's and I just have to wait it out.

Seems to be an iTunes problem...

Thanks for the link. They also linked to a discussion on Apple's website. Guess I'll wait it out for now and see what happens.

FYI, just read a solution over at AVSForum.

Turning off quick start fixes the problem.

Settings-Apps-iTunes Movies and TV Shows

Even with it off, Doctor Strange started playing within a few seconds.
