So I can’t get my ATV 4K to output Atmos. Have tried everything. Audio Settings are set to Automatic,Atmos available and on. Don’t think it’s my receiver as it outputs Atmos when playing 4K discs. Ideas?

You’re using at least an 18Gbps HDMI cable?

We finally added a 4K tv to the house and I have the Apple TV hooked up.

I’m trying to figure out the box settings.

I have both matches to on.
Format as 4K Dolby vision 60hz

My tv says that all content that comes out of the Apple box is
4K w DV

Is that correct?
I’m watching the football game on Amazon prime which as far as I know is not 4K or DV but should be 720p at best.

Sounds right, Tony. I have two 4K TVs, each with a 4K TV. One of the TVs is several years old and doesn’t support Dolby Vision. The newest one which is in the master bedroom does and identifies as having it enabled whenever the tv is turned on.

Hmmm... does that mean you're getting fake/interpolated DV for non-DV content?

That's what happens on some (older) 4K disc players when DV is left explicitly enabled for non-DV discs.

I’ll amend some of that.

Some content does switch the hdr to either “regular (no hdr)” or “hdr10” but everything is in 4K.

Interestingly last night we watche ww84 in 4K on HBO but when I went to finish it today the Apple TV box switched to 1080 and both Match setting went to off.

I had to go back and switch them to !arch and the Dolby Vision back on.

Tony, you’ve got to tweak the settings. Set it to 4K SDR. Then set match dynamic range on, and also match frame rate on. That way you will get HDR only on programs that are supposed to have it, and also the original frame rate. As for everything coming out 4K, you have to live with it because there is no “original resolution” setting. The box upconverts all programs.

That’s the info I’m looking for.

The 4K ATV has some weird settings.

If you turn on Enable Dolby Vision, it uses DV for the menus. I do not enable DV For that reason.

Instead I set Match Content to Range & Frame Rate, because my TV can reproduce 24fps for frame rate. That way, the output is only HDR for program material that’s HDR. Otherwise it sends an SDR signal with normal content.

I also set it to output everything at 4K, so It does all the upscaling of lower res stuff.

Ok I’ll check it out tomorrow.
I went around in circles on those damn settings when I got a 4K monitor, and now I have two, both with ATV 4Ks.

These are the video settings, like Mark said.

4K SDR
Match Frame Rate & Range, if your monitor is 120Hz or higher.
Do NOT enable DV. The Match Range will activate it when it’s available.

Also, set Chroma to 4:4:4 if your monitor is compatible.

And don’t forget to activate Atmos if your system has it.
