It actually isn't a spoiler, because if you knew what the ending of the new cut is (it's talked about in the article), you'd know that it's not referring to what you think it is...
Even so, what are the chances you would see the movie without knowing what the title is!?
Really intrigued by the concept of "Coda"; as it sounds like a game-changer.
Upon the completions of Mr. Coppola's re-edits of "Apocalypse Now", "The Cotton Club" and "The Godfather: Part III" his quests for shaping these 3 stories could easily become its own semester of study at all the major film schools,
(My post was joking! )
About Francis and The Godfather- I’d purchase another collection of the films, if the Q&A at the screenings in NY were included. I’d be interested in seeing that.
Apocalypse Now The Final Cut being screened in Bologna, Italy...
Nice pics, but I cannot see any stereo surrounds speakers.
Kind of curious that with two days remaining before release, there doesn't seem to be a single online review of the disc. Makes me wonder if there have been problems, and they're afraid of having a bunch of cancelled pre-orders. But maybe the lack of early reviews for a major release is more common than I remember. I'm extremely anxious for a stellar result, and maybe that has me over-thinking the matter.
There have been a lot of production issues with physical media in the last year or so. Just speculation, but if Lionsgate couldn't get the quantities it was looking for in the initial pressing it might have skipped review copies to get as many out on shelves as possible.
I've already received a shipping notice from DeepDiscount ...
On Friday 8/23 - It's not "expected" until 08/31
No issues with the disc. Copies are out in the wild.
Though I don't normally mention reviews from other sites I know THE BITS will have one in the next 12 hours.
I don't know if there is a review coming from us or not as I don't handle the screener copies for our site.
Here's a review....
There won't be anything available tomorrow from either Amazon, Best Buy or Target either. Very disappointed.
Interesting review of the disc. What I'm still curious to know, and not mentioned in his review, is if the original and redux are also from the OCN and include Dolby Vision/Atmos. While I appreciate Coppola wanting to get it to the point that he's happy with it, I still feel strongly that the '79 release is the superior release. The French Plantation scene, especially the burial of Clean, is extraneous and out-of-place within the context/style of rest of the film. (And don't get me started on the "love them" that plays before Willard smokes opium with the French woman. Real head scratcher.) Therefore, I hope that the original version doesn't get short-changed in this release. That particular cut influenced so many filmmakers and is by no means a lesser film; it deserves equal treatment.
I have seen the film about 40 times (that's no exaggeration), beginning with its original release at the Cineramadome in Hollywood where you had to mail in an order form to get tickets. I've owned every iteration of it (VHS, Laserdisc, DVD, Blu-ray) and recently saw its re-release on a giant IMAX screen (sadly, not in 4k). It had a profound effect on me at the time of its release and how I view films and filmmaking. Can't wait for tomorrow.
Digital Bits review is up: http://www.thedigitalbits.com/item/apocalypse-now-final-cut-uhd-bd
The issue I was concerned about is answered: "These are also newly-remastered from the new 4K OCN scan and are included using seamless branching." "Audio on this disc is English Dolby Atmos only" but does not include original 2.0 stereo mix (found on Final Cut). Whew.
This set is $10 on iTunes in case anyone wants it that way
You mean digitally right?
All my local Best Buy’s have this in stock.
Picking mine up this morning.
My local BB has them available to pick up today, too.
I just don't feel like making the drive.
I mean, this is why I go with Amazon.
I wonder what the heck is up with Amazon preorders on this title? This isn't a Warner or Disney release. Is Amazon now pissing off Lionsgate?
