Has anyone followed what has happened to the Apex 77xx?

The 7701 was - from everything I've seen on the web - a total fiasco.

Supposedly there was to be a 7702 (7703 in Europe?) but everything seems to be quiet on this front.

As for the rest of the Apex collection it is hard not to find many evaluations as POS - irrespective of model number.

Apex's game plan has seemingly been to find a price level low enough where people don't complain about quality.

A pity - as someone should be carrying the flag of decent 'less expensive but good' equipment. Are there any new no-namers out there that have gotten a good reputation (or is that non-logic to start with?) - or are they all some kind of 'devised brand name' for a Chinese DVD factory?

Every player out there that's not a major brand is OEM from Chinese factories

True enough - but MANY 'major' brands are also OEM'd out of these very same Chinese factories.

Anyhow - has anyone heard anything about Apex' 'universal' player?
