Rookie here, who has learned just enough over the past week to be dangerous. Can you give me the thumbs up or down with my first purchase into true home theater...

I am planning on buying the new Harman Kardon DPR 1001 ($750) and combining them with the Aperion Audio speakers with a 10" sub ($1399).

A. The 50w per channel petrifies me with the DPR 1001 (the 2001 with 100w per channel won't be available until fall.
B. I feel I should consider THX but just can't pull the trigger.
C. Is a power amp plausible in the future to boost the 1001?

Thanks for all your help!

I just got a set of Aperion speakers and I'm liking them so far. They are a bit power hungry so I'd recommend the HK AVR-525. The Apes are a tad on the revealing side so they'll go well with the smooth sounding HK. You can always get an amp in the future but the internal amps should push the speakers just fine.

Oh, and forget about THX. It's just a marketing gimmick.

I also have the Aperions and would second what Peter said but also add that if you call them rather than ordering on line, they can give you a really good deal bundled with an Onkyo receiver.
