I just got back from my orthopedist, and it looks like the pain I've been experiencing in my shoulder since March is a torn labrum. I'm going to have to go in for an MRI in the spring, but Dr. Beach says I'm going to need surgery.

So my question is this: What can I expect? Have any of you wonderful HTFers had experience getting an MRI? And has anyone had experience with this type of injury or surgery? I don't mind telling you I'm pretty scared.

Tons of MRIs. Used to be like fitting a whale in a beach chair listening to jackhammers, but the new open MRIs are comfortable and quiet. I usually take a nap, but mine are for pituitary tumors and my head is strapped down, ymmv for shoulders.

I have had 2 MRI's in the open MRI machine
take some earplugs, it is quite noisy and the old style air tube headset provided to listen to your music are not quite up to HTF specs
