There's a film called The Winter War about the Russo-Finnish war of 1939-1940 that has a strong following among certain war-movie buffs. http://us.imdb.com/Title?0098437
It's out on DVD now. Has anyone seen it? What's the quality of the disk?

I suppose I should mention that you may have heard of this film under its Finnish title, "Talvisota". But then again I even have the proper kivaari for this time period.....

Haven't seen the disc yet. The movie is really good IMO, a favorite. It's told from the Fins perspective. It shows the hell of war as well as the bravery of the men involved. Its what I call a grunt, or in the trenches, type of film and doesn't concern itself much with the overall history of the entire campaign. There is no real "hero" character either, it's more like the whole unit is the protagonist. This is not a Saving Pvt Ryan type of film.
