Anyone remember the movie, Electric Dreams?

Yes, I know it's kind of a silly movie. However, on a higher level, it takes a satirical look at artificial intelligence. (Computers have feelings, too, you know.)

I still have the MGM laserdisc of this film. However, a search on MGM's website yielded no results. I guess I'll never see it on DVD.

If anyone is interested in learning more about this 1984 film, do a search on Google and it will take you to http://www.fast-rewind.com/ and display a whole synopsis of the film.

I remember it. Virginia Madsen and . . . some guy. Can't remember. I believe he spills his drink on the computer, and it is able to talk to him. Plays matchmaker with him and Virginia. I tried it, and it didn't work. Spilling my drink on my computer, that is.

Anyway, the one scene I remember involves them going to Alcatraz. I guess there's a law against bringing your computer to life by spilling a drink on it. Oh, wait. They were just taking a tour.
Probably one of those typical '80s "spending time together" musical montages.

Anyway, loved it as a kid, doubt if I'd pick it up today. I think the odds of it seeing a release are extremely slim, though you never can tell: D.A.R.Y.L. is coming from Paramount later this year.

What I most like about ELECTRIC DREAMS are the two songs "Now You're Mine" by Helen Terry and "Video" by Jeff Lynne.

That was a fantastic movie. I also wish they'd release it on DVD.

This title was mentioned in the March 8, 2004 HTF chat with Warner Bros, and was in the category of "No Plans at This Time." Too bad...I would buy this in a second.

First off, I'm a staff writer at http://www.fast-rewind.com/ and it's nice to see the site mentioned.

Anyway, I've been hoping for this to come out for a long time. I read a rumor on here in one of the "Warner 2-Disc Threads" that this might be on the way.

Sincerely,

John Kilduff...

I popped the soundtrack CD in the other day (I haven't done that in like 5 or 6 years). I really want to see this movie again. I had the opportunity to pick it up on LD 10 years ago and passed because it was P&S. Myabe so, but now I'm kicking myself since even though it was P&S, it was SOMETHING.

Is it available in another region?

I remember the dream sequence, it was pretty cool at the time. Boy George did the song, I know, I know...But it was actually pretty good...

Great movie. The only movie I've rented that I watched FOUR TIMES before returning. Great film.

Lenny von Dohlen was the guy's name. (Maybe spelt it wrong.) Also did a turn in Twin Peaks as Harold, the shut-in.

And he also appeared in the "Back to Reality" episode of Red Dwarf, season 5.

What can I say, I'm a fan of the guy

Has to be one of the few movies Madsen doesn't get naked in.

And yes, great soundtrack.
