    Hi!

I have Outlook 2003 and want to backup my email messages. I understand there is a folder where the raw data is stored but Microsoft is not making this easy to find. Does anyone know where it is located and how to copy it?

I just want to backup my Outlook messages...

Thank you for your help. [IMG]

The easiest way is to create a .pst file. Go to File --> Import and Export --> Outlook --> Export to a File --> Personal Folder File.

Make sure you password protect the file. If you do NOT password protect and you have to reformat for some reason, you may or may not be able to open the file after re-installation. If you DO password protect it you shouldn't have any problem opening it at any time on any computer.

What I'd like is an option to

Export > All Messages > as Word docs

This seems like a natural thing, what with both products being by Microsoft.

Sorry, I don't think there's anyway to do that. Outlook's backup system is extremely limited.

Unless it has changed radically from 2000, do a file, save as, and make it a .txt file. Then open Word up.

Thanks guys. I was able to export to a CSV based spreadsheet all of my inbox and sent items.

Seems to work very easily. Not sure why Outlook keeps the data storage so secretive.
