You didn't buy it from the back of a van in a Home Depot parking lot did you?

What is the whole brand name?

IS THAT WHAT YOU BOUGHT? I guess Im wondering about the 'is it compatable' question above. these are speakers. did a receiver/preamp/processor/amp come with this setup?

Ouch- I hope you got a real good price :frowning:

These look to be white van speakers. The brand is ebay only.

Sorry

Those speakers really don't have a brand name since a new name is conjured up what seems like every week for these and many other unheard of speakers on Ebay. They're pouring in from overseas somewhere. Theater Research is the most common name you'll see being used on Ebay. I guess this name has a familiar ring to it for alot of people who have heard of Acoustic Research at some time or another.

I'm sure that "under the hood" of these speakers you will find very cheap components comparable to boombox components, not to mention the hood itself (the cabinet).

Quite a few years ago these speakers first showed up being sold out of vans and trucks and white vans were the most common vehicle used. So even if the speakers go up on Ebay and never make it to vehicle distribution the quality and sales tactics earns them the name "White Van Speakers."

Not only the above but did anyone notice this is a 5.1 system, not a 6.1 system unless he is hiding a speaker someplace?

The seller must not be a math major!! :)

Only to find out their brand was Audio Research, which freatures on that website too!

LOL

How much did you pay? E-bay should have some protection as these speakers are probably not as good as the KLH set you can pick up for $75.

"I heard some people say this is something like SDDS, which is not DD nor DTS"

Aaryn, those are formats or digital encoding from the source [ie, DVD player, cable box, tivo, laser disc player].
They really have little to do with speakers, in the whole chain of audio bliss. This is why I asked the 'compatable' question. I dont see how you would think some speakers ARE compatable and some ARENT. because only one signal gets fed to a speaker, and its an analog signal. way way way after the decoder [receiver/preamp-processor] converts the digital encoded format [dts, dolby, etc.] to an analog format, then sends it thru the amps does the signal get to the speakers.

So which Acoustic or Audio Research is legit?

Charlie, that's what i found weird about my question too, since we're talking about speakers, not amp.. Thnx for the clarification.

Aaryn,

I would put them back on E-Bay and hope you can recoup some of your money. For $200 you can almost buy the Fluance package which would be a nice set-up for the same money.
