The Alison Krauss New Favorite SACD is out. Does anyone have it yet? I am curious to hear how people like this album and how the SACD sounds. I already have her Forget About It and Now That I've Found You: A Collection SACDs and love her voice and the sound quality of these SACDs. Overall, I don't like the music on Forget About It, but I really like Now That I've Found You: A Collection. Is New Favorite more like one of these albums, and if so, which one? Is it completely different than both? Please post reviews!
Note that whereas Krauss's first two SACDs were hybrid stereo discs, New Favorite is a hybrid multi-channel disc. Elusive Disc has New Favorite on its web site ($20), but it is out of stock. Here is the link:

Keith, I have been checking on this release on almost a daily basis. As soon as I can find a place that has it in stock, I will order it and report back.

Edit: I went to Elusive Disc (found it odd that they were the only one's to carry this so far...even Rounder's website didn't have it available. I also found it odd that they were already out of stock. Didn't think there were that many Alison Hi-rez fans out there). So, what did I do? I ordered it off Elusive Disk anyway, dispite the message saying it was out of stock. At no time during the ordering process did they give me a pop up message stating the item was out of stock and we will see how long it takes to arrive at my house.

Keith, in my humble opinion the music selections on "New Favorite" are the equal to "Now That I've Found You: A Collection." The redbook audio is reference quality particularly the title track which sounds breathtaking (pardon the hyperbole). Another standout is Allison's cover of Dan Fogelberg's "Stars" from his release "Homefree".

The cuts featuring Union Station are great as well if you have an appreciation for contemporary bluegrass.

Quite frankly Rounder has done such as wonderful job mastering the redbook CD that I believe that only the finest of reference audio systems will showcase the added benefits of SACD (and I count myself among the SACD faithful). I will purchase the SACD to A/B both offerings, but my system is decidely mid-fi.

Evan,
I order from Elusive Disc alot, and you have to know that sometimes they put an item on their website even before actual stock come in - thus the OUT OF STOCK message you recieved. Since Acoustic Sounds is already selling this item also, I surmise Elusive Disc wanted to indicate that it should be in any day - so they posted it on their website. This would mean it will probably be in stock very shortly.

I've heard the CD on a good reference system and I'm looking forward to getting the SACD.

Evan and Phil,

Please do you post your thoughts on this SACD when you get it.

Michael,

I am on Elusive Disc's weekly e-mail list, and an e-mail message I received today tipped me off to the supposed availability of the New Favorite SACD. You could very well be right that they posted it on their web site and in the e-mail message in anticipation of its arrival in the short term.

Sam,

Thanks for the info. The CD layers on the two Krauss hybrid discs do sound quite good, but I have not done extensive A/B'ing with the SACD layers yet.

Keith - from what I understand, Elusive Disc is usually at the Home Entertainment Show in NY and lst year had 5 SACDs for $75 when the disc price was higher. A friend of mine went and bought 5 and he didn't have an SACD player at the the time. I'm hoping to stock up.

Phil, five SACDs for $75 is a heck of a price. I wish I were going, but I have a good weekend planned anyway. Enjoy it!

I should have my copy in a couple of days. I ordered it directly from Rounder. It is not on there website. This is the reply I got back when I emailed Rounder.

Alison Krauss + Union Station - New Favorite SACD
This is available but you cannot order from the website. You need to call 1-800-ROUNDER to order and please give the product # as SAROUN0495 $17.99 + $3.00 shipping.

Chris, thanks for the tip. With any luck, a dealer in my area will get the New Favorite for $15.99 or so. I bought the Forget About It SACD from this dealer for $17.99 and the Now That I've Found You: A Collection SACD for $13.99 as part of a $2 off sale. I don't know why the original price rang up for $15.99 because the price tag said $17.99. Oh well. You can't fight city hall. :D
If my local dealer doesn't get the New Favorite SACD, I'll go with Rounder direct or Elusive Disc.

Elusive Disc confirmed shipment of my copy today...should get it by mid week. I'll post back. I already love the first two singles and cannot wait to hear this on hi-rez.

Evan, thanks for the update. I like Krauss's voice enough that I will probably get this SACD no matter what anyone says. ;) I am just curious to hear reviews of the SACD.
