I am thinking of picking up the Alice in Chains Greatest Hits SACD. Does anyone have it, and if so, how does it sound? I am particularly interested in the sound of the stereo SACD track in comparison to the CD since I don't have a multi-channel SACD player yet. Thoughts on the multi-channel SACD track would be appreciated too, however. I almost bought the Greatest Hits CD at Best Buy for $10, but passed. I have some of their other CDs, and I love their music. My concern, however, is whether their material over the years was recorded well enough for there to be any benefit of having the SACD.

If you enjoy the music then I think it's worth picking up. The recordings are not audiophile reference quality but most Alice in Chains is recorded much better than most of the Alt-grunge material of the era. Some cuts have unfocused vocals (stylistic intention)lo-tech guitar effects, etc. SACD does a better job of conveying the recordings than CD.
My old band used to do spot-on covers of Rooster and Would. I was performing them live 6 nights a week, so revisiting the cuts was a lot of fun.
*I can't really comment on the multi-channel mix. I have the two channel 333ES SACD changer.

Dave, thanks for the info. I have the '777ES and 'C333ES stereo SACD players, hence my interest in the Alice in Chains stereo SACD track. As I said in my original post, I don't have the Greatest Hits CD yet, but I have a few other Alice in Chains CDs. I would love to hear "No Excuses" on SACD. That's my favorite Alice in Chains song. It's not too bad a recording as far as '90s alternative and pop recordings go.
