Question for anyone who has the R2 Japanese disc of Night on Earth by Jim Jarmusch.

I checked the website and all that is listed is Japanese subtitles. Are there burned in English subtitles on the non-English speaking parts?

This is coming out next week in a nice two pack with Mystery Train and I would love to finally get a copy of this.

    Thanks in advance.

I have the R0 PAL disc which I got from the UK. The disc is anamorphic and looks and sounds fine. I paid about $14 for it. Unless there is some overriding issue with this disc that I am not aware of, I don't see why you'd want to overpay for the likely overpriced Japanese disc.
Benson's World has it at the moment for about $17 (approximately, with the conversion).

Oh and Dave, since you're in New York City, you could probably just go to Kim's on St. Mark's Place and pick it up there. Their prices are generally comparable to Benson's World.

Hey Al, I would only prefer the Japanese version as it is NTSC so's to avoid PAL speedup. Also, which version do you have? Is it widescreen anamorphic? I believe the 1st release wasn't. They re-released it as a 2pk. about 7 months ago as a ltd. edition with Mystery Train.
I know it's more expensive. [IMG]

There are no burned in subtitles on the disc. There are Japanese subtitles which are removable. Now, unless they've changed the disc and updated it OR you're multi-lingual, then buyer beware.

I have the Japanese release (jewel case), and no, I can categorically state that there are no burnt in English subtitles... just the Japanese subs.

    Wow, the thread relived.
I actually picked this up a while back in a Jarmusch box set with Mystery Train. The subtitles were removable but only Japanese as Tim posted.
It's been a bit since I watched it but the back states it as "16 x 9 Letterbox." Unfortunately my HT system is a state of rearrangement and I won't be able to check again until this weekend.
