As the subject line says-my wife thinks I'm abit crazy for doing it. I have all my remotes wrapped in plastic; keeps them from getting scratched plus allows you to grab it and not worry about getting it greasy even if you have been eating chips, butter popcorn, etc. Just curious so maybe I can say I'm not the only one

Do you have plastic on your couch and leave the little clear plastic on your VCR screen as well? :)
I say why put the covers on the equipment - when do you get to enjoy it without a cover on it? I would rather have a few scratches and knicks, and enjoy it, without a cover that makes it akward to use!

Maybe you could just get some of those rubber surgical gloves and put one on each time you need to use the remote. And build a glass case to keep the remote(s) in...:rolleyes

I knew one guy, years ago, who kept all of his remotes in ziplok baggies.
I made fun of him. :)
Better to use them the way they are intended. You can clean them off with some alcohol and a q-tip if they get greasy.
I'm guessing that you don't have a jog/shuttle control? :D

Chris, is this to protect your remotes from alien abduction as well? :D
Seriously, you're really worried about your remotes wearing out!?
Perhaps you ought to just scratch all your remotes and get it over with.

I think you are the only one. Seriously, if you have something that MUST be protected that much, it's more of a liability than an asset to even own it.
I have a Pronto, and I've drop kicked it a few times (still going! Whew!), and it's over 2 years old. By the time I make it unusable, which won't be anytime soon, I'll be ready for a new one, anyway.
And, why do you have remotes when you can have a remote? :)

My wife likes to read HTF posts for fun and to fuel her sarcasm. I am already an object of her ridicule for my obsessions and this post is not helpful. :)

One of my friends parents does this. You go to their house and a 1" remote is now 5" thick in white/clear plastic cushion wrap! Its funny as shit. You can slam the remote down on the floor and nothing happens to it. They are the only ones I've ever known to do this though.

While I won't be wrapping my remotes in plastic any time
soon... I am buying a leather case at the same time I order
my Pronto TSU200. I have a Doberman Pincsher who's just shy
of 100 Lbs and she is a LAP DOG.. Needless to say I do NOT
want the LCD on the Pronto getting claw marks on it.. So it
will go inside that nifty leather case that they sell over
at www.remotecentral.com :)
P.S I do leave the plastic on my lamp shades and I don't
remove the tags from my matress's (I heard that's like a
federal offence.. 50 years in Fed Penn) :D

Don't you think a Doberman would rather chew on a nice piece of leather rather than a chunk of plastic?:)

James,
Notice I didn't say chewing on.. I said scratching with her
claws.. She jumps up on me in the chair or couch and snuggles
up in my lap... And if I happen to have a remote sitting in
my lap or on my chest, it gets stepped on!
As for chewing on things, Thats why I buy her Jurrasic Bones.
Her current bone is a full grown cow's femur and she loves
it! ;)

Well plastic eh?
My wife's brother does that as well, but he's not into home theatre, he's just anal.
Chris, don't get discouraged about posting here, it's all in fun.

Well as Brett DiMichele I do use a case for my Marantz 5000i. It is just like a cell phone case and for the $20 it costs, it makes me feel better. With most the responses for the first question, I won't go into my waxing my phones, or switch plates or anything like that. :)

CD's and DVD's come wrapped in plastic too - you DO unwrap them before using, no?
