So there's been some talk about a thread Edward posted, kind of a home theater checklist. I went through, confident that I'd done everything right. I head over to avsforum and see that same topic posted again and take a look. This guy points out two things that were wrong in his. Oh, I couldn't be so foolish.

One of them was Dynamic Range compression on the dvd player. On a whim, I decided to double check(Sony Dvd 715). I get the DRC setting: "standard." Yep, I'm good. I decide to look more closely-- standard, narrow, wide.. well this is interesting.

Standard compression? Narrow compression? Wide-- no compression?

Have I been listening to my system from day 1 with compression on??

It might explain why I've never had my pants waffled even though in theory I should with my svs 20-39 pc+.

To the best of my knowledge, dynamic range compression on DVD players only applies to the analog output.
