Is anyone else looking forward to THE WANDERERS starring Karen Allen and Ken Wahl?

Anamorphic, commentary etc etc... should be cool!

Wow, I'll say I'm excited about this one. I'm usually quite up to date on announcements, but after a recent move, I've only now got phone and internet access back up and running. Yesterday, I read a post mentioning THE GYPSY MOTHS coming in September. I've been on the lookout for that title and was quite surprised to see it mentioned as it's never been available on home video and is fairly obscure. I checked Amazon and saw that customers who had pre-ordered GYPSY MOTHS had also ordered...THE WANDERERS! One of my favorite films and most requested DVDs is coming to DVD! Finding out about it a few weeks later, makes the news more satisfying somehow.
However, I am a little disturbed to see that Philip Kaufman's commentary is not being carried over from the laserdisc. I had suspected this might happen. I guess I'll have to hang onto my laserdisc.
It seems that several MGM and Warner laser releases handled late in the game by Image, have come to DVD lacking features available on the laserdisc version. THE IDOLMAKER was released widescreen with director commentary on laser. On MGM's DVD, it is available in full-frame only with a trailer. The trailer was not on the laserdisc, but the trade seems pretty uneven to me. DEATHTRAP was widescreen on laserdisc, but is a full-frame budget Warner DVD.
Anyway, hooray for THE WANDERERS! And while you're in this (catalog) giving mood Warner, how about:
    PERSONAL BEST
    OVER THE EDGE
    STRAIGHT TIME
    CARNY
    CRUISING
    PETULIA
Thanks for all the upcoming catalog releases, Warner. Please keep them coming.
    Jon

    Jon,

The DVD WILL contain an audio commentary by Philip Kaufman, the original theatrical trailer, 16x9 anamorphic transfer, cast and crew film highlights and more....

    Good news buddy!

I second OVER THE EDGE and CRUISING. And howabout A LITTLE ROMANCE (Diane Lane's debut) as well!

"No one fucks with the Baldies."

Thanks for reminding me that this is coming out. The football game is classic and I get chills thinking about it.

The novel is worth reading too!

Hopefully they will have a few copies, but I wouldn't count on more than, say, 5-7. The Wanderers has a very small and devoted following, but still it's not a movie very many people know about.

Shame really, it really is a wonderful, wonderful film!

This again proves to me that "quality" is in no way represented by the popularity (read: box office take) of a
    film release.

"The Wanderers" was big in Europe and Japan. Sadly, it was overshadowed by Walter Hill's "The Warriors" in the U.S.

Ron, a review of this title would be great! Thanks.

I fondly remember the Terror character, and the Karen Allen strip poker scene. Great movie deserving of it's cult status. IMHO.

Will have my review posted in the morning.

Not a great transfer - looks aged and washed out.
Still, probably the best it has looked on any format
    to date.

    Steve,

Like I said in the review thread its great to see a film really shot in the Bronx, not like that crapshow A BRONX TALE.

I used to coach little league and one kid on the team had this huge mid-40's father that would get a tan and smoke cigars on the sidelines, the guy was freaking diesel! Anyway me and my friend always would say that if a rumble ever broke out at least we had him to go insane and start beating ass with a broken piece of bench.
