Up at Image now, though I'm certain their runtime is wrong. This should look stunning in an anamorphic transfer. Thank you Mr. Fox! :)

Very much so. It totally kept me enthralled when I saw it theatrically many years ago.

I caught this film for the first time last week. Panned and scanned, and full of the artifacts common with digital cable. In other words, I too am looking forward to a proper presentation of this film. I am a huge fan of the soundtrack (had it before I actually saw the movie), and would not argue with DD5.1 or comparable!
Cheers,
Joseph

Apparently Sheltering Sky is mid 2002.... haven't seen that one yet, but always was looking at getting the LD.
The 1.33 version of the film isn't true P&S, as this was Super35 (I'm pretty sure). There is more top and bottom info on that transfer (a good thing in a couple of places, ahem). The 2.35 image is stuning though. A lot of critics seem to have panned this film, but I thought it was brilliantly executed. Lots of nice quirky characters and lovely Liv at the center of it all.

I'm also looking forward to this one. Darius Khonkji's cinematography is always stunning.
If only we could get a decent edition of Bertolucci's The Last Emperor. I hear the current Artisan version is pretty appalling.

I'd be looking forward to it except that I've had it for the last year -- the R2 (France) anamorphic Stealing Beauty DVD is pretty darn good.

I'm looking forward to it, Jeff. It's a wonderful film!

As for the bad rap about the characters--hey, I've seen space operas that put their emphasis on human personalities and relationships. They're called "Star Trek" movies. Give me transparent underwater cities and vast hollow senatorial spheres any day. --Roger Ebert on The Phantom Menace
