I've only read the first one but thought it was pretty interesting, though I'm a sucker for that genre.

I haven't. I strongly suspect that I strongly disagree with the theology of these books, and I am unwilling to risk paying money to people I disagree with to find out if I'm right or not. I'd ask you some questions about it, but I don't know how to do that without getting into forbidden religious territory for this board.

Just finished the new one -
Love them - but they style is the same on the last few.
I'm interested in you it ends (I know how, just how they are going to write it up).

It's a good series. Just curious now how they will be able to deal with the time frame issues (condensing 3 years into four books).

Check them out at your local library. I also disagree with them theologically but the books themselves are entertaining and good reading material. If you would like to talk about the theology, you can do so at www.leftbehind.com.

I have been curious about these books for a while. I am certain they conflict with my personal beliefs, however, if they are a good read, that's all that matters to me. Lord knows, I enjoy a good violent movie even though I am not a violent person!
I will have to give the first book a try.

Thanks for the link, but it has an error in it. It should be www.leftbehind.com

I looked over that website but it didn't really tell me what I'm wondering, so I'm going to go out on a limb here and ask.
Are there ultra-right-wing fundamentalist Christians portrayed in these books (e.g., Jerry Falwell, Pat Robertson, etc.) and if so are they portrayed as being raptured or left behind? And if they are left behind are they good guys or bad guys? And how are non-Protestants portrayed. Were Roman Catholics raptured? Mormons? Muslims?
I think I would have a really hard time reading a series (no matter how well written) in which only fundamentalist Christians were portrayed as the raptured.

These are great books. I got hooked on them this summer. Although I don't agree with all the theology, it is a fascinating concept of the apocalypse. I guess I need to go out and buy the latest book. How many total books do they plan to make?

Why Kirk Cameron?
We'll, I guess only a Christian would do this movie and Kirk's a Christian.
I really like Left Behind, I really like alot of Hal Lindsay stuff.
But, my Dad doesn't prefer these books as he's a post-tribber.
I think him and Mom are the only post-tribbers in the family..

Oh George, about your post.
Yep, Catholics are raptured too.. This really isn't too extreme.
These books are based on the Biblical books of Revelation with some Isiah and other major/minor prophets thrown in.
And the "Good guys" (belivers that Jesus is the Christ and messiah) are raptured and taken up to Heaven while the others (non-christian) are left down on earth to endure (in-a-nutshell) the torment of Armagedden and tribulation (plagues, war, you know the drill).
As for Moromons and Muslims (I REALLY DO NOT want to step on anyone's toes, so if offends anyone I freely invite the moderators to delete this) they are not raptured. As in the left behind it quotes John 3:16, "There is no way to the Father except through me (Jesus)" and as Muslims and Mormons do not believe Jesus is the son of God, they can't be raptured.
Did that clear it up?
Remember, I DO NOT mean to offend anyone at all, just telling what the book is about.

Nathan,
Thanks for the info. And I really don't want to get into religion since it's basically a taboo subject, however, I do think I should point out that while I'm not a Mormon, nor an expert on their religion, the Mormons I know claim to believe in Jesus.
In any case, if these books had some hypocritical televangelists not be raptured and ending up on the side of the antichrist, I'd be a lot more interested in them. As it is, I appreciate the info, but think i'll avoid them for the same reason I don't listen to Rush Limbaugh - to keep my blood pressure down. :)

Jeffrey, Kirk wasn't the problem. It was just that the movie sucked and did no justice to the first book whatsoever. By the way, there is a LB series in the works and is to air on PAX in January.

You might like the books, kinda an on-edge thing..
Really detailed..
But don't see the movie, it will completely turn you off.

Hey! But you have to look at the whole picture. Even if your not part of the Rapture you still are given another chance. For those that remain on Earth all they have to do is not take the mark of The Beast. although that requires a little suffering as is explained in The Left Behind series.

Well that raises another interesting question about how things are handled in these books. If you refuse the Mark of the Beast, but still remain a loyal Hindu, did you go to heaven, or burn in hell for your trouble?
