A lot of the older TV shows were not even meant to be seen beyond SD (standard definition) resolution. That, and the fact that before the 1970s, some of these older TV shows also had sponsor tags embedded into the opening and closing credits, and even had them tagged before said credits (e.g. Kellogg's into early Hanna-Barbera cartoons like The Huckleberry Hound Show and The Quick Draw McGraw Show, or Oscar Mayer or Chevrolet into Bewitched).I don't even bother buying recent or current tv shows on dvd anymore. Kinda defeats the purpose when they were originally done in hd (or higher) resolution, where it is unavailable on bluray/4kbluray or discontinued on bluray.
It even lies with DVD releases of short cartoons, especially with those Looney Tunes and Merrie Melodies from when Warner Bros. had several of them reissued into the Blue Ribbon series starting in 1943, with MGM following suit four years later with their Gold Medal series (most of which are the only currently available prints of most of their pre-1952 shorts, following a fire breakout at their studio in 1967).
