My Production Manager here at work is watching and burning this film right now so it got me thinking about the Special Edition due soon; aside from the Scorcese and gang commentary, should there be an improvement in the audio and video from the version thats out now? I gotta say, I dont usually get excited from Dolby Surround tracks, but the 2.0 one on Raging Bull isnt half bad for the budget they worked with; sure, dialogue is HORRENDOUSLY low in certain spots, but during the fight scenes, the crowd ambience slightly makes its way into the surrounds; its not a bad touch.
Should the 5.1 track on the SE be THAT much better? The video quality looked fine on this current version to me, too. My better half bought me the current version for my birthday last year, I think it was, and it has been serving me fine, but lately I have been taking a step back and re-evaluating my necessity for double dips on titles; the re-release of Christine this past Halloween I did not purchase because Columbia didnt seem to do anything with the audio track on it---same old congested 2.0 Dolby Surround; I also didnt buy into Daredevil Directors Cut for different reasons.
